GTag - Google Analytics show no traffic

CostasAthan

Question

Is there a delay till Google Analytics start delivering data for the first time for a website? I have set up Google Analytics more than 24h ago, I see the tag in the wiki's source code, but Realtime monitoring shows 0 traffic, as well as the traffic's overview is 0 too.

Any ideas?

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify that you have the correct analytics ID in the extension
  2. Verify that the analytics code is appearing in the page source. If it does not, you either do not have the extension enabled (check Special:Version), or the extension is configured to not track you (because you are sending DNT with your requests, or you are part of an exempt user group). If the latter case, you can modify the extension config in LocalSettings.php.
  3. If the code appears but you still see no data, ensure that your browser isn't blocking the request. Many ad blockers will block Google Analytics and some browsers such as Firefox have built-in privacy settings that may block trackers as well.

It was number 3... I am using multiple browsers, one without any ad related extensions, and I had the impression that the browser I was using for testing was the one without an ad-blocker installed.

Just another question in order not to start another topic. Google suggests "To install the global site tag, copy the following code and paste it immediately after the <head> tag on every page of your site". Any reason GTag calls the script near the end of the <body> tag?
